The data included women delivering their first live baby in 2022 or 2023.
As the charts show, the racial/ethnic groups are similarly represented in both the total deliveries and C-section deliveries. This means the data shows no significant disparity between ethnic groups. Of 397 first births recorded in 2022-2023; 79 were delivered by C-section, which makes our first-birth C-section rate 19.9%.
The World Health Organization recommends that a C-section be performed only when medically necessary. The Department of Health and Human Services has set a target C-section rate of 23.6% for low-risk deliveries.
